Daliyuer Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at the Qipan River 27 km to the southwest of the Qipan Region, Yecheng County, Xinjiang. It was named by the 13th Geological Expedition under the Ministry of Geology in 1957.
Lithology and Thickness
Clastics. The formation is divisible into two members: Lower member is composed of meandering river-facies purplish-red and grey-green siltstone and limestone, intercalated with micro-conglomerate. Upper member is composed of braided river-facies grey-green and purplish-red siltstone, intercalated with sandstone. Its thickness is about 210 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Conformable contact with the underlying Qipan Fm.
Upper contact
Unconformable contact with the overlying Jurassic System.
Regional extent
Distributed in the piedmont extending from Yecheng to the area south of Yingjisha, with its thickness increasing remarkably easterly and reaching as great as 344 m in the Momoke Village by the Qizilafu River, with the strata closer to the upper part of the formation yielding Ostracoda as represented by Darwinula aff. Pergusta, Darwinuloides dobrinkaensis. In the area of the Shluqiuke Village by the Lukewusi River it yields Gastropoda and Plant fossils (phytolites), with a thickness of 430 m.
